Built to Last
A Father, A Son, and 30 Years of Outdoor Spaces Done Right
Pisa Construction Group was built the way most lasting things are—by family, and by hand. John Cox spent decades establishing a reputation for quality masonry and construction throughout the region before his son Austin joined him with a broader vision: to grow the
company into a full-service outdoor living design-build firm. That father-son foundation still shapes everything about how Pisa operates today.
1. Thirty years is a long run in construction. What’s kept clients coming back?
Consistency, communication, and quality. We’ve always focused on doing things the right way instead of the fast way. Clients know we stand behind our work, show up when we say we will, and handle projects professionally from start to finish. A large portion of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers.
2. You offer gunite, fiberglass, and liner pools. How do you help a homeowner figure out which
is right for them?
Every homeowner has different priorities, whether it’s customization, speed, budget, maintenance, or long-term value. We walk clients through the pros and cons of each system honestly. Gunite offers complete customization and luxury finishes, fiberglass offers speed and efficiency, and liner pools can be a great value-driven option when designed properly.
3. How do you approach a project as a complete outdoor environment rather than a series of
separate jobs?
We look at every property holistically. The pool, patio, landscaping, drainage, lighting, masonry, and entertainment spaces all need to work together visually and functionally. Instead of treating each phase separately, we design everything with one cohesive vision so the
finished project feels intentional and connected to the home.
4. What does the process look like from first conversation to finished space?
It starts with an on-site consultation where we learn how the homeowner wants to live and use the space. From there, we move into design, material selections, engineering, and permits. Once construction begins, our team manages the entire process closely, keeping communication consistent through completion and final walkthrough.
5. What does good masonry actually add to a property beyond the aesthetic?
Good masonry adds structure, durability, and long-term value. Properly built retaining walls, patios, steps, and stonework improve drainage, usability, and the overall function of a property. Quality craftsmanship also ages better over time, which protects the homeowner’s investment while significantly improving curb appeal and outdoor living potential.
6. What trends are you seeing among Dutchess County homeowners?
Outdoor spaces are becoming true extensions of the home. We’re seeing strong demand for outdoor kitchens, fire features, cold plunges, and resort-style pools, with clean modern designs, natural stone, and functional entertaining areas leading the way.
7. What would you most like readers to know about working with Pisa, and how can they get in
touch?
We genuinely care about the experience just as much as the final result. Our goal is to make the process organized, transparent, and enjoyable while delivering exceptional craftsmanship.
