Happening in the Hills, publisher of Litchfield and Dutchess Magazines is looking for talented, locally-minded creatives to join our team on a part-time basis. We’re currently seeking a Newsletter EditorFeatures Editor, and Social Media Manager to help us share the people, places, and stories that make our region special.

If you have a strong editorial eye, a love for community storytelling, are highly organized, detail oriented, and have a knack for digital engagement, we’d love to hear from you.

Position Details

Newsletter Editor 

Responsibilities:

  • Write, curate, and edit engaging weekly newsletters for Litchfield and Dutchess magazines.

  • Select and summarize timely content, events, and features that reflect our audience’s interests.

  • Collaborate with editorial and design teams to ensure cohesive tone and look.

  • Track open and click-through rates; make recommendations to improve engagement.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing, visual, and editing skills.
  • Two years extensive experience with email platforms such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact is a must.
  • Familiarity with our region (Litchfield & Dutchess Counties) is necessary.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.


 

Features Editor

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, assign, and edit feature stories for both magazines.

  • Work with writers and photographers to shape compelling narratives.

  • Maintain editorial calendars and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Collaborate with publisher and art director on story ideas and angles.

Requirements:

  • At least two years proven editorial experience (magazine or newspaper preferred).

  • Excellent writing, line editing, and story development skills.

  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.

  • Interest in lifestyle, design, food, and regional culture.


 

Social Media Manager 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and TikTok accounts for both magazines.

  • Plan and schedule posts aligned with editorial content and brand tone.

  • Write engaging captions and select high-quality images.

  • Track analytics and grow engagement with followers.

  • Collaborate with editorial team on content promotion and brand storytelling.

Requirements:

  • Two years experience managing professional social media accounts.

  • Strong writing and visual sense.

  • Knowledge of social media trends and analytics tools.

  • Familiarity with Litchfield and Dutchess County communities necessary.

  • Creative, dependable, and able to work within brand guidelines.


 

Motivated Advertising Sales Representative

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys connecting with local businesses, building relationships, and helping clients grow through creative marketing opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with advertisers and agencies

  • Identify and reach out to new business prospects

  • Work with our editorial and design teams to coordinate ad placements and campaigns

  • Meet sales goals and deadlines for each issue

  • Represent Dutchess Magazine at community and client events

Requirements:

  • At least two years sales or marketing experience (publishing or media preferred)

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently

  • Local knowledge of Dutchess County.

This is a part-time, commission-based position with flexible hours — perfect for someone who loves people, local business, and community storytelling.
