Join the Housatonic Valley Association from 5:30 – 9 p.m. for a Dine Out for a Cause fundraiser, hosted by The Lantern Inn in Wassaic, NY! A portion of the proceeds from this fun and delicious evening will support HVA’s conservation work in eastern New York and beyond.

The only conservation organization dedicated to the entire tri-state Housatonic Watershed, the Housatonic Valley Association acts to protect the natural character and environmental health of the region, from the Berkshires to Long Island Sound, through restoration projects, land protection, and educational programs.

 Join us for an inspiring evening of music as we present the Shared Voices Residency Recital, a collaboration with the Denyce Graves Foundation and Wethersfield. Shared Voices, DGF’s initiative to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, invites elite historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and conservatories to participate in a relationship that strives to create and encourage meaningful connections between consortium members – students, faculty, and administrators – that result in a greater awareness of the diversity within the classical vocal arts and culminate in a meaningful collaboration. As part of this intensive artistic residency at Wethersfield, students and young artists from top music conservatories and Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) have engaged in a week long training program with industry luminaries.

As spring migration brings a lively chorus to the landscape, this is a wonderful opportunity to observe a variety of songbirds, raptors, and other seasonal visitors in their natural habitat. Alan will share expert insights on bird identification, behavior, and habitat, making this walk both educational and engaging for birders of all levels.

Would you like to discover the many wildflowers in our area and how to identify them? Join the Dutchess Land Conservancy and Audubon New York for a summer wildflower walk on Thursday, June 12th from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at Buttercup Farm Sanctuary in Stanfordville, NY. We’ll have iPads on hand so walkers can use the Seek and iNaturalist apps to identify and catalog species, or you can download the apps to your own smart devices. By recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research-quality data for scientists who are working to better understand and protect natural features and resources. This will be a 2-mile slow walk on a level path around the preserve, so be sure that you have appropriate footwear.

Experience a day full of athleticism, tradition, and vintage aviation at the Northeast Highlanders’ Highland Games, held at the historic Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. Watch as athletes compete in traditional feats of strength and skill—including caber tossing, stone putting, and hammer throws—bringing the spirit of the Scottish Highlands to life. Bagpipes, kilts, and camaraderie set the scene for this unforgettable celebration of heritage and competition.

After cheering on the competitors, take your adventure to the skies with a flight in one of the Aerodrome’s authentic open-cockpit biplanes. Soar above the scenic Hudson Valley and truly feel the wind in your kilt!

Every third Saturday from May through October, Rhinebeck’s galleries, studios, and businesses open their doors to showcase a wide range of artistic styles and mediums. Visitors can explore diverse exhibitions at local venues, including Montgomery Row Art Space, Albert Shahinian Fine Art, Irwin Garden, Art Gallery 71, Betsy Jacaruso Studio & Gallery, Hammertown, Upstate Down, Winter Sun and Summer Moon, Rhinebeck Mercantile, Hudson Valley Pottery, All That Java, The Kroeg, and The RhineCellar. Each establishment has its own hours and details, so be sure to check ahead.

The 2025 dates are: May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20, and Oct. 18.

County Players Presents the Musical Big Fish
County Players, one of the longest-running community theatre companies in the region, proudly presents the sweeping musical Big Fish, opening May 2 and running through May 18. With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by John August, Big Fish is based on the 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 Tim Burton film.

Directed by Michael J. Frohnhoefer, with musical direction by Karen Dalmer-Sheehy and choreography by Mary Beth Boylan, this larger-than-life production invites audiences on a fantastical journey inspired by a father’s tall tales. Big Fish tells the story of Edward Bloom, a charming traveling salesman whose epic adventures blur the line between reality and imagination. Overflowing with heart, humor, and unforgettable songs, this feel-good show is perfect for the whole family.
