Tyte Gallery Presents “Paintings,” An Exhibition by Hudson Valley Artist Rudy Vavra

THINGS TO DO

Events, gatherings, & outings: What to see and do in Dutchess County, NY.

April 27, 2025

Tyte Gallery: 3280 Franklin Avenue, 2nd Floor, Millbrook

3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Tyte Gallery is proud to present Paintings, an exhibition featuring the work of celebrated Hudson Valley artist Rudy Vavra. The show will run from April 1 – May 31, 2025, with an opening reception on April 5 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., offering art lovers and collectors the opportunity to meet the artist and experience his luminous, layered paintings in person.

Vavra’s work, shaped by more than three decades of artistic exploration, is rooted in abstraction and the poetic interplay of color, texture, and light. His approach—beginning with spontaneous marks inspired by the fleeting beauty of flower stains left by pilgrims at holy sites—transforms each painting into a journey of discovery. Independent curator Tatiane Schilaro Santa Rosa describes his work as “highly gestural… inviting viewers into a fictional world of color and depth, where light plays across the surface in ephemeral marks.”

The exhibition highlights Vavra’s mastery of layering, offering meditative, slow-looking works that reward close observation. “Abstraction is not about an artist’s cryptic intention behind the marks,” says Santa Rosa. “Instead, it is an urge—a method—to make language visible through gesture and color, a narrative of sorts.”

A Must-Visit Destination for Art Lovers
Tucked away in the heart of Downtown Millbrook, Tyte Gallery is a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley’s vibrant arts scene. With a mission to foster a thriving artistic community, Tyte Gallery showcases a curated selection of work from both emerging and established artists, providing an intimate and immersive art experience.
