Set on 250 acres in Amenia along the Webutuck River, Troutbeck is one of Dutchess County’s most celebrated estate hotels, a Michelin-keyed property with a 250-year history of drawing artists, naturalists, and discerning travelers. Its newest accommodations only deepen the appeal.
Four River Cottages, two of which offer two bedrooms, are nestled within a private enclave designed by Reed + Hilderbrand and framed by native wildflowers, trees, and shrubs. The architecture by Stonehill Taylor draws from early American forms, with Troutbeck’s own circa-1790 Benton Cottage as a quiet reference point. Inside, Champalimaud’s interiors carry the natural tones and textures that define the firm’s work across the property. The furnishings tell a distinctly local story: four-poster king beds by Ian Ingersoll of Cornwall, ceramic lamps by Dumais Made of Bantam, antique blanket boxes as coffee tables, and Marcel Breuer chairs. Hoosier-style mini bars and tiled gas fireplaces round out a sensibility that is collected and considered without trying too hard. All four cottages feature Frette linens and bathrobes, bath products by Wildsmith, and original works by Thompson Street Studio, founded by artist Kiva Motnik.
