Painting, Ceramics at Mad Rose Gallery

Photographs by Kerry Madigan

Mad Rose Gallery presents three artists who explore the intersection between humans and the environment in its first exhibition of this autumn, open from August 30 to October 6. The show aims to inspire, connect, and enrich the lives of individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

New to the gallery is Ginny Howsam-Friedman, who derives her paintings and drawings from the natural environment, searching for underlying geometry and order amid nature’s chaos. Her work translates surface and subterranean geography to canvas and paper.

Also in the autumn exhibition is Basia Goldsmith, whose paintings reflect her deep personal connection with the Hudson River. Inspired by the American Abstract Expressionists, she captures the essence of color, line, and shapes, always conscious of the contrast between city and nature.

Josh Nathanson is a ceramicist whose work incorporates his obsession with texture. He produces one-of-a-kind tactile, functional pieces with an emphasis on the evidence of human touch, and an embrace of imperfect organic rawness.

On permanent display at the gallery are the photographs of Kerry Madigan, a student of both LIFE magazine photographer Yale Joel, and master photographer and printer George Tice.

The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday and by appointment.—madrosegallery.com
