The Stissing Center

As those of us who live in this glorious part of the world know, NE Dutchess County abounds with gems, both well-known and hidden. One such gem that is shining brightly and deserves repeat visits is The Stissing Center in Pine Plains

Constructed in 1915, the building originally known as Memorial Hall has gone through several iterations, reemerging in 2019 as The Stissing Center and opening with a benefit concert by Wynton Marsalis. A cultural hub for the entire region, TSC hosts an incredibly sophisticated array of live performances throughout the year, from chamber music to theater to square dances to film, and more.

Although The Stissing Center goes dormant during January, it is gearing up for a spectacular 2023. Coming attractions include the country guitarist Jeremiah Johnson on March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day). On March 25, Grain Thief brings its old-time bluegrass string music to town. The perennial favorite Local Produce will also return, consisting of monthly play readings featuring local playwrights, actors, or locations. First up is Her Rightful Place by Joe Capone on February 19, followed by Merry Christmas, You’re Fired by Don Carter on March 19, and Sojourner Truth by Grace Angela Henry on April 16. Late spring highlights include the second annual Comedy Show and Spring Swing, a festive night of swing dancing. Enjoy them all! —thestissingcenter.org
