Since opening in early June, the Savage Wonder Art Center in Beacon has emerged as one of the Hudson Valley’s new cultural hubs. Located at 139 Main Street, this veteran-powered nonprofit blends immersive theater, bold contemporary art, live performance, and even a hidden wine bar—delivering an experience that’s as audacious as it is heartfelt.
Through July 6, the center’s Radical Fun exhibition features conceptual, deeply personal work by 13 veteran artists. Downstairs, The Grape Rebellion wine and dessert bar—tucked inside a century-old bank vault—hosts The Grape Escape, a weekly live music and wine series every Wednesday and Thursday.
This summer also brings Summer Stages, a rotating short-play showcase from July 12–Aug 9, and Savage Sounds, a rooftop concert series on Aug 16–18..
Founded by veterans and creatives Christopher Paul Meyer and Jeremy Plyburn, the center exists to uplift the artistic voices of military veterans, first responders, and their families. “We’re here to celebrate the stories that don’t usually get told in galleries or theaters,” says Meyer. “Veterans contain multitudes. Our mission is to unleash that creativity in ways that are intimate, absurd, and unforgettable.”
With sold-out shows and surprise-filled evenings, Savage Wonder is establishing itself as a space where bold expression meets real community.
