Wilderstein’s Summer Benefit Fundraiser?
June 24, 2024

With its Queen Anne mansion rising high above the Hudson River, Wilderstein is widely regarded as the Victorian crown jewel of the Hudson Valley National Landmark District. The estate was built in 1852 by the Suckley family and expanded to its present configuration in 1888. Joseph Burr Tiffany is credited with decorating the first floor of the mansion in an eclectic mix of styles. The interiors are virtually untouched since that time period and contain beautiful woodwork, stained glass, wall coverings, and furnishings.

Wilderstein was the family home of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, sixth cousin and confidante of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She frequently visited the White House, presented Scottie dog Fala to FDR, and was by his side when he died in Warm Springs. Her letters and diaries provide valuable insights into Roosevelt’s private life.

Since becoming a not-for-profit house museum in the early 1980s, Wilderstein has made significant progress in restoration and public engagement. It continues to be a cultural resource for the Rhinebeck community and beyond.

On Saturday, July 6, Wilderstein will host its annual summer benefit fundraiser. The “Red White & BLUES” themed party will take place on the estate’s Calvert Vaux designed grounds and feature live music, food and drinks, tours of the mansion, a silent auction, and fun. Proceeds support the operation and ongoing restoration of Wilderstein.-wilderstein.org
